A Person Without Purpose Will Go Crazy

Why I’m Writing This
I was listening to the Modern Wisdom podcast this week when Simon Sinek said something that hit hard: Most people find purpose after a crisis. That’s exactly what happened to me. And if you’ve ever felt stuck, lost, or like you were just surviving, then this newsletter is for you.
When My Life Fell Apart
In September 2021, I hit a wall.
From the outside, everything looked great. I was a successful surgeon. I was a Jiu Jitsu purple belt making strides. But behind the scenes? I was in a crappy relationship, deeply burned out, and questioning everything.
The worst part was feeling guilty for struggling. “You have such a great life. How can you be sad?” people would say. And that just made it worse.
Eventually, I asked for help. I started working with Ray, a life coach trained in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Mental Emotional Release® (MER). We peeled back layers I didn’t even know were there. I let go of old baggage, stepped out of that relationship, and two months later… I stepped onto the competition mats at Worlds.
That moment, and everything that led up to it, is the story behind my book coming in 2026.
How You Can Find Purpose
Purpose doesn’t usually show up during the highlight reel. It shows up in the mess. In the breakdowns. In the quiet moments when you decide you’re not going to let this be the end.
If you’re in that space now… there’s hope. Therapy, coaching, mentorship. Whatever tool gets you out of the hole, take it. For me, that was @mycoachray and MER. It might be something different for you. Just don’t stop digging. I hired my life coach, Ray, during my time of struggle and haven’t looked back since.
Why Purpose Matters
When humans don’t have purpose, we spiral. We get anxious, unmotivated, depressed. And research backs it up. Having a purpose is linked to lower rates of chronic illness, cognitive decline, and even death.
Your body and mind are connected. Purpose is the thread.
Whether it’s through Jiu Jitsu, medicine, parenting, or building something that matters. Go find the thing that makes you feel alive.
Because a life without purpose? Isn’t living.
