Why Doctor Jiu Jitsu Exists (and What It Means for You)

If you’ve ever trained through pain, doubted your worth, or felt like you were holding it all together on the outside while struggling on the inside—this newsletter is for you.

You’re why Doctor Jiu Jitsu exists.

In late 2021, I hit a personal low. Life looked good from the outside: I was a successful surgeon, progressing in my career, and checking all the boxes. But behind the scenes, I was burned out, stuck in a toxic relationship, and questioning everything. Like many high performers, I had no off-switch and no safe outlet. So I did something different—I asked for help. That decision changed everything.

What followed was a return to jiu jitsu competition after 7 years away—fueled not by anger, but by clarity. That moment became a turning point. It showed me what was possible when we combine mental resilience, physical recovery, and a community of support. It’s what Doctor Jiu Jitsu is now built on.

Doctor Jiu Jitsu isn’t just my story. It’s a framework for yours.

It’s for combat athletes recovering from injuries who don’t want to quit.
It’s for those who’ve lost their way in life or on the mats and want to rebuild.
It’s for the grinders, the underdogs, and the people chasing excellence while carrying heavy things behind the scenes.

Doctor Jiu Jitsu brings together what I’ve lived and what I’ve learned—from orthopaedics, to jiu jitsu, to mental performance coaching and life experience.

My mission is to give you the tools, knowledge, and support to take ownership of your body, your mind, and your story—whether you're battling back from injury, preparing for your next tournament, or just trying to stay in the fight.

Let’s rise together.

— Dr. Megan Lisset Jimenez
