How Do You Morning?

The morning sets the tone for everything that follows. Those first few choices, including when you wake, how you wake, and what you do first, determine whether you’re on offense or defense the rest of the day.

Before I rebuilt my mornings, mine were a mess: snoozing alarms, stumbling around half-asleep, dreading the day ahead. From the outside, I looked like I was crushing it. On the inside, I was dragging.

It wasn’t until I changed my mornings that I realized: how you start matters more than you think.

Morning Routines Aren’t One-Size-Fits-All

There’s no perfect template. The goal is to find 3–5 things that actually serve you. Not a giant checklist, not a social media “morning routine” trend, but habits that fuel your day.

My advice:

  • Pick 3–5 things you love (movement, hydration, meditation, journaling).

  • Add 1 thing that sucks but makes you better (cold shower, tough stretch, early wake-up).

    Cut what doesn’t serve you.

My Routine (Simplified)

Here’s the flow that works for me most days:

  • Hydrate: big glass of electrolyte water before coffee.

  • Sunlight + movement: chase my dog, stretch, or quick breath holds.

  • Mobility + mindfulness: 10–20 minutes of stretching, meditation, or breathwork.

  • Cold exposure: ice bath or cold shower for focus and discipline.

  • Fuel: protein-rich breakfast, then coffee around 9–10 a.m.

Why This Works

  • Hydration jump-starts energy and focus.

  • Sunlight sets your circadian rhythm and improves sleep later.

  • Mobility and mindfulness keep the body limber and the mind sharp.

  • Cold exposure trains resilience and mental toughness.

  • Delaying coffee avoids the 1 p.m. crash and supports steady energy.

Final Thoughts

Your morning is your warm-up for life. Just like you wouldn’t roll in jiu jitsu or step under a barbell without warming up, you shouldn’t go into your day tight and unprepared.

Find what works for you. Build a morning that energizes you instead of drains you. And remember… when life gets hectic, that’s when routines matter most.
